University Meets School

The following activities of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science address pupils who are interested in mathematics:

  • Mathematics Day:
    Once a year all pupils of Osnabrück and environs are invited to a Mathematics Day at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
    Lectures are held on several subjects and workshops are offered, in which everybody could work on his or her own problem. Moreover, information concerning the study of mathematics, the job prospectives for mathematicians and the teaching profession are provided. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

  • Seminar Subject Mathematics:

    3rd Prize of the Hans-Riegel Foundation of the University of Oldenburg in Mathematics
    Sarah Haunhorst, pupil at the Ursulaschule in Osnabrück, has won the 3rd Prize of the Hans-Riegel Foundation of  the University of Oldenburg within her seminar subject mathematics and with their exposition on „Coding Theory - Error Detection and Correction“. This exposition was supervised by Dr. Judith Plümer of the Institute of Mathematics of the Osnabrück University.  Here you can see the poster which was created by Sarah Haunhorst for the awards show.

  • Lectures in Schools:
    Are you looking for a competent lecturer, who can give an appealing lecture in your  mathematics lesson? Do not hesitate to contact us! The following topics in mathematics, computer science and systems science are presented in schools by members of our department.

  • Taster Course:
    Prospective students - especially pupils from grammar schools or other secondary schools - are welcome to take part in specially designed courses at our university. There are no special formalities: no application, no admission restrictions, no enrolment. Detailed information about this taster course can be found under Zentrale Studienberatung Osnabrück.
