Lecturer: Dr. Debbie Stoll, Smart Communication - Training and Consulting
has more than twenty years’ experience in teaching business and academic English to students and professionals in South Africa, Belgium and Germany. As language and communication trainer and consultant, her work focuses on the challenges we face in terms of our communication and interaction in multicultural and multilingual academic and professional settings.

Content:
Resilience is the ability to remain stable, strong, focused and empowered under pressure. Responsible leadership requires resilience – especially in our fast-paced modern world in which we are faced with a number of large, global challenges. International science and business teams have the potential to offer answers and solutions to our most pressing global problems – provided that they work effectively, efficiently and resiliently under the guidance of responsible leaders.

In this workshop, you will learn about resilience in general and about your own resources for resilience. You will also learn about the role resilience plays in good leadership in academia and business. You will do so by exploring these questions in a set of engaging exercises:
• What is resilience exactly and why is it getting so much attention in the media and in professional training?
• What is a VUCA world and what does resilience have to do with it?
• Which personal and environmental factors foster resilience?
• What makes me resilient?
• How can I become even more resilient?
• How can I help team members stay resilient and further develop their own resilience?
• Which ethical aspects play a role in our expectations about our own and others’ ability to be and remain resilient?

The workshop will equip you with an understanding of better leadership through resilience and insight into the conditions and strategies that make leaders in professional settings in academia and business resilient.
