Beschreibung
In 1905, Albert Einstein created a new foundation for physics with his special theory of relativity. Since then, the theory of relativity has significantly influenced the development of physics and its kinematic principles remain valid in quantum theory.
The lecture will present the fundamentals of special relativity and discuss some of its most important consequences and applications.
The course is explicitly aimed at students with a specialization in physics as well as students studying to become physics teachers. A certain familiarity with the basics of classical mechanics and electrodynamics (approximately at the level of the courses Experimental Physics 1 & 2 and Theoretical Physics 1) would be helpful for participation. However, knowledge of these is not essential for understanding the basic statements of the theory.
In addition, the prerequisites and wishes of the participants can be taken into account in the presentation and selection of topics.
