PWD: Translating German Short Fiction

This PWD class for Master's students will involve taking a selection of German short fiction from the FRG as well as the GDR and translating it into English. To do this, we will mobilise our full knowledge of literary studies for the process of reader reception, and our full knowledge of English linguistics and our language proficiency skills for the translation process. Students will be required to lead a class session based on a translation of their own, and to write a paper of 2500 words after the conclusion of the course including 1000 words of translation from a text of their choice plus an analytical self-evaluation of their translation choices of 1500 words.
