Beschreibung

This course is a workshop-style approach to conveying science communication skills, practising preparation and communication methods, and getting to know various mediums. Importantly, we will focus on science communication with people outside of academia.

The idea is that you bring your Cognitive Science topic of interest – this may range from a course you took to a thesis topic (see Prerequisites) – with you to the course. First, we introduce the Goal-Audience-Medium-Style-Topic (GAMST) framework for preparing and specifying science communication projects. Based on this framework, you will work individually or in small groups on preparing your topic through writing tasks, visual short media, and audio or video format. The course is complemented by impulses on good scientific practice, giving and receiving feedback, and more.

As a final task, you are asked to do some 'actual' science communication, by either participating in a science slam (planned), publishing in a special issue of the Cognitive Science Student Journal (planned), or any other type of science communication event after the seminar that you discover yourself.

Students who need the course for finishing their studies can contact us until Sunday, 27th October (Sunday before lectures start). Later contacting cannot be considered in the selection process of participants. The motivational letter should be 400-600 characters long. Shorter or longer motivational letters will not be considered, and respective students will be excluded.
