MetaDataMetaData is a means to help with resource discovery and to structure information in general. Metadata are informally known as data about data. A slightly more formal way is to view MetaData as Statements or functions on spaces of resources. Math-Net uses DublinCore vocabulary suitably qualified along with other namespaces such as vCard. Math-Net maintaines/will maintaine schemes mostly to identify object types. Currently most MetaData in Math-Net are coded via the HTML Meta tag. As this coding showed as cumbersome with respect to scalability, modularity and machine understandibility Math-Net will moves it's MetaData syntax to W3C's Resource Description Framework. RDF basically allows to transmit semantics, which can expressed via labeled directed graphs. RDFSchema as an additional layer for instance can be used to declare relations amongst vocabularies. From this point of view TAB has interests in further progress of the DublinCore MetaData initiative in particular in the area of MetaData architecture. Some Math-Net services already have built RDF profiles and provide corresponding tools. The transition period to RDF will also be used to revise HTML profiles which are currently in use both semantically and syntactically. Appropriate measures will be taken for backwards compatibility. Particular emphasis has to be put on the issue of conceptual and technical interoperability with related initiatives. more information about Metadata
